Robots. Revered. Feared.
This is the site for the most dangerous Robot Wars contender around - the robot with a serious attitude problem. Requiring an on-board computer to control its legs, not its temper, the robot codenamed SpiderBall is a serious piece of work.
SpiderBall's Design is highly unusual. The six legs are capable of independent motion, and not only do they weigh a considerable amount each (10kg) and move at 3 metres per second, but they also spin at up to 1000 RPM.
SpiderBall requires a Software Simulation, not only as proof of concept, but also for real-time control of the final implementation. A radio-modem will be needed to communicate between the control software and the on-board computer, and the control of both the simulation and the final implementation will need TWO 4-axis joysticks.
Overall, in terms of damage, control, style and agression, the SpiderBall Design takes the Robot Wars Concept to the extremes that Mentorn REALLY intended. [BRING IT ON!]
Research into viable options for components, materials and Linux Drivers and Libraries has thrown up a really long list of Links, which other people may find useful. Some of the options that may be perfect for other people building robots are simply either too large, too heavy or too expensive in quantities of 12, for SpiderBall...
As with all of the Robot Wars contenders, materials donations and sponsorship are always appreciated, valued and recognised. As a significant sponsor you are more than welcome to borrow a completed SpiderBall for display at Trade Shows, as long as you promise to put some serious barriers around it!
