This is just a stub; I will fill this essay in when I have clarified my thoughts on this topic.
Although affective creatures may choose to take any action which improves their affective state, they are not constrained to do so. They are free to take such an action, or some other course of action. The exercise of such free will is possible only for beings; freedom is an attribute of the soul.
