Pets
When I was a child, our family had a great variety of small pets,
and of them all, I think rats were by far the best.
The types of animal we had included:
  - Rats

 - Friendly (even in the daytime) and intelligent

 - Chihuahuas

 - A crazily brave dog, will attack things many times its size!

 - Cats

 -

 - Arabian spiny mice

 - Cute, and capable of eating aluminium (e.g. water bottle tubes)

 - Wood mice

 - Zoom around their cage with such momentum that they can loop
the loop, with a thumping noise as they do so

 - Gerbils

 -

 - Hamsters

 - Tend to be savagely grumpy when woken during the day

 - Tortoises

 - Great fun, but need to hibernate over the winter

 - Turtles

 -

 - Toads (captured from the wild)

 -

 - Slow worms

 - Technically a lizard, but looks much more like a small snake

 - Grass snakes

 -

 - Rabbits

 -

 - Guinea pigs

 -

 - Chinchillas

 -

 - A python

 - Neither friendly nor unfriendly; needs both hands to handle it
safely (so it can't wrap itself round part of you; if a python
doesn't want to move, it doesn't move)
